Repair Record Keeping System
Summary
I developed this application while working for Gannaway Bros. Jewelers. A large part of their business is jewelry repairs. While I was developing their site, I thought it would be convenient for customers to be able to check the status of their jewelry repairs online. It would give them a good reason to come to the website and browse other sections of the site. No jewelry website that I know about provides this kind of service.
Problems Solved
- Allows customers to check the status of their jewelry repairs online.
- Sells more repairs by providing a convenience to customers that other jewelry stores do not provide.
- Provides a reason for customers to visit company website where they are exposed to marketing messages.
- Cuts the number of telephone calls from customers requesting updates on the status of their repairs.
- Supplement paper repair records with searchable electronic records.
- Provides a much quicker means of obtaining repair records.
- Provides an additional source for repair records when paper records are misplaced.

Future Development Possibilities
- Send a daily e-mail to goldsmiths with a list of repairs that must be completed that day.
- Send an e-mail notification to customers when repair is completed.
- Redesign generalize the application so that it could be used by any industry that provides a service (eg. car maintainence).
